Domaine Charlotte & Aurélien Houillon

Charlotte & Aurélien Houillon Estate

Faucon, Vaucluse, France

Houillon is a name that sounds familiar to many in the wine world. It is also the name of Charlotte and Aurélien. The couple settled in Faucon, Vaucluse, at the foot of Mont-Ventoux, in 2017. Aurélien hails from the Jura, like his siblings, with whom he worked at Domaine Pierre Overnoy for several years. His path then led him to Neuchâtel where he met Charlotte. She worked the vines with her draft horse, while Aurélien converted Domaine de Vaudijon to biodynamics.

The desire to produce their own wines quickly arose. After exploring several regions in Alsace and the Jura, they fell in love with a domain much further south, in Faucon, in the Côtes-du-Rhône. Nearly centenarian goblet-pruned vines, planted in one block around the winery and preserved within a walled garden; the place is idyllic.
Charlotte and Aurélien make wine as they do in the "North" and their native lands. Everything is sorted and destemmed in the vineyard, by hand, before beginning short macerations. The wines are direct, pure, and impressively distinctive. We eagerly anticipate each vintage.
